Neal Moritz’s Original Film banner has closed a deal for an untitled horror-thriller pitch from writer Todd Kirby, sources tell Variety.

The spec was acquired for a cost said to be in the low-to-mid six figures, with Moritz using money from his discretionary fund. Sony, which has a first-look deal with Original Film, will distribute.

Andrew Norman at Original Film brought the idea to Kirby and developed the pitch with him. He will oversee for the company with Ori Marmur and Moritz producing. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, the company is eyeing the project as a possible new franchise that would appeal to a global audience.

Kirby is repped by Madhouse Entertainment and Behr & Abramson. He was previously staffed on Fox’s “Famous” and Fullscreen’s “Making Moves.”

Moritz was a producer on “Passengers,” which opens Dec. 21 and stars Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. He also recently produced “Furious 7” and “Goosebumps.” He has a handful of films coming out in 2017 including “The Fate of the Furious,” the latest installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise, and “Hunter Killer” starring Gerard Butler.
