Sam Rockwell and Ciaran Hinds have joined Jessica Chastain’s Sitting Bull drama “Woman Walks Ahead,” which has started production in New Mexico.

Michael Greyeyes, Chaske Spencer and Bill Camp have also been cast. Susanna White is directing from a script by Steven Knight.

Black Bicycle Entertainment is financing and producing alongside Bedford Falls in association with Potboiler. Lipsync is co-financing post production.

Producers are Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz under their Bedford Falls Company with Black Bicycle Entertainment’s Erika Olde, Rick Solomon and Potboiler’s Andrea Calderwood. Susan Kirr is executive producing. CAA is handling the domestic rights while IM Global is selling international rights.

The project was unveiled in February at Berlin with Chastain starring as Catherine Weldon, a portrait painter from 1890s Brooklyn, who travels to Dakota to paint a portrait of Sitting Bull, and becomes embroiled in the Lakota peoples’ struggle over the rights to their land. Weldon wrote letters to the federal government on behalf of Sitting Bull and lived on the land for several years with her son.

Greyeyes is represented by Talentworks, The Artist Representation Company, and Mills Kaplan Entertainment. Rockwell is represented by The Gersh Agency and Untitled Entertainment. Hinds is represented by CAA and Spencer by Abrams Artists Agency and Primary Wave Entertainment. Camp is represented by Innovative Artists.
