‘Patriots Day’ Teaser Trailer: Mark Wahlberg Stars in Drama Based on Boston Marathon Bombing

Mark Wahlberg’s life changes in an instant in the new teaser trailer for “Patriots Day.”

“Why are you laughing? I look like a clown,” the police officer jokes with his wife (Michelle Monaghan) as he suits up for the marathon. “I’m basically a crossing guard. You got my whistle? My stop sign?”

Wahlberg kisses Monaghan goodbye as he heads toward the marathon, completely unaware of the tragedy that will ensue.

The film is told from the perspective of Boston Police Department Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Wahlberg) and Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman) in the events leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath, including a terrorist manhunt.

The teaser hints at footage of the bombing as the camera shakes and goes black. “America the Beautiful” is played reverently and ominously on a piano.”Patriots Day” is directed by Peter Berg and written by Berg, Matt Charman, Eric Johnson, and Paul Tamasy. CBS Films and Lionsgate produce the film.

In addition to Wahlberg, Monaghan, and Goodman, J. K. Simmons and Kevin Bacon also star. Wahlberg and Berg recently teamed up for “Deepwater Horizon,” which opened in theaters last weekend.

This film is scheduled for limited release on Dec. 21, and wide release on Jan. 13, 2017.
