Documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville has signed on to direct the drama “A Beautiful Game” for Focus Features.
Maurizio Grimaldi is producing with Zander Lehmann penning the script.
Similar toAlexander Payne’s “Election” in tone, the film is a coming-of-age story about a high school soccer star whose personal life becomes complicated as he begins to develop a relationship with a teacher leading up to his championship game.
After years of making a name for himself in the documentary realm, the movie will mark Neville’s feature film debut. He also won an Oscar for his doc “20 Feet From Stardom” and is currently developing “Best of Enemies” with Aaron Sorkin.
Some of his past credits include “The Music of Strangers,” “Keith Richards: Under the Influence” and “Troubadours.”
Lehmann is the creator and executive producer on the Hulu show “Casual.”
Both Neville and Lehmann are repped by WME. Neville is also repped by Management 360.
