Veteran film production executive Mark O’Connor is joining Sidney Kimmel Entertainment as executive VP of production.
He will report to SKE production president Carla Hacken, who noted that the company is in the midst of increasing production.
“Mark is an incredibly smart, creative, and passionate executive that I have known and admired for years,” Hacken said. “His creative insights and eye for material and talent are why he is one of the most respected people in the industry, and we are thrilled that he’s joining us at this exciting time at SKE, as we expand our production slate in both film and television.”
O’Connor most recently served as a senior executive at Todd Phillips’ Warner Bros.-based production company Green Hat Films, which he joined in 2009. He’s worked on the comedies “Project X” and the upcoming Warner Bros. release “War Dogs,” directed by Phillips and starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, based on the Rolling Stone article “The Arms and the Dudes.”
O’Connor began his career as an assistant in CAA’s television department, became a trainee in the agency’s mailroom and was promoted to agent in the motion picture literary department, representing feature writers and directors. He became an executive for Lorne Michaels’ Paramount-based shingle Broadway Video, working on Tina Fey’s feature writing debut “Mean Girls.”
O’Connor also worked as an executive at Fox, shepherding “Night at the Museum” and “Reno 911!: Miami,” and at Scott Rudin Productions where he developed projects for the producer’s overall deal at Walt Disney Pictures.
SKE’s upcoming films include “Demolition,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts with Jean Marc Valle directing; and “Comancheria,” starring Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine and Ben Foster and directed by David Mackenzie for CBS Films. It’s in post-production on “Book of Henry,” a drama directed by Colin Trevorrow (“Jurassic World”) and starring Naomi Watts and Jacob Tremblay for Focus Features.
