Luke Evans has joined the cast of the indie drama “State Like Sleep” opposite Katherine Waterston and Michael Shannon.

Meredith Danluck is on board to write and direct the pic.

“State Like Sleep” revolves around the basic need for human connection and love.

Evans will play the sleazy owner and operator behind the mysterious club Lebellfleur. It’s essentially a secret high class gentleman’s club that a woman thinks holds the answers to her husband’s death.

Eddie Vaisman will produce the pic with Julie Lebedev of Code Red financing and executive producing.

Production has started in Toronto.

After breaking out in the role of Bard in “The Hobbit” franchise and Shaw in “Fast and Furious 7,” Evans has emerged as one of Hollywood’s leading men.

The Welsh actor was most recently seen in Ben Wheatley’s “High Rise” and has the anticipated “The Girl on the Train” bowing in October, followed by the thriller “Message From the King” premiering at the Toronto Film Festival. In 2017, he’ll appear as Gaston in Disney’s live-action “Beauty in the Beast” opposite Emma Watson.

He is repped by WME and United Agents in the U.K.
