New behind-the-scenes footage from 2017’s “Kong: Skull Island” debuted Sunday night during the MTV Movie Awards.
The first look at the action-adventure film, which centers on the origin story of King Kong, features cast members Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell divulging plot details on the star-studded reboot.
“The film is about a group of explorers who set off on an adventure to a previously uncharted island,” Larson, who plays a peace-driven photojournalist, reveals in the video.
Hiddleston, who stars as a resourceful former British SAS officer, adds, “They get to this island and discover that all is not quite as it first appears, and there are strange new creatures, mythic beasts that come into the midst, and they have to get off the island alive.”
Mitchell will star as a helicopter pilot in the action pic, which will be set in the Vietnam War era.
Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Thomas Mann, Toby Kebbell, Tom Wilkinson and John C. Reilly also star in “Kong: Skull Island,” which will be directed by “Kings of Summer’s” Jordan Vogt-Roberts from a script by Max Borenstein, John Gatins and Dan Gilroy.
The first release in a partnership between Warner Bros. and Legendary, “Kong: Skull Island” will set the stage for a monster franchise mash-up, which is set to culminate with 2020’s “Godzilla vs. Kong.”
