Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit Riots Film Casts ‘Legends of Tomorrow’s’ Joseph David-Jones

Joseph David-Jones has been cast in a lead role in Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming film about the 1967 Detroit riots, Variety has learned exclusively.

The actor joins John Boyega, Will Poulter, Jack Reynor, and Ben O’Toole in the ensemble. Character descriptions are being kept under wraps.

Bigelow is directing from Mark Boal’s script. Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is financing with Bigelow and Boal producing along with Ellison, Matthew Budman, and Colin Wilson. Greg Shapiro will executive produce.

The untitled crime drama is set against the backdrop of Detroit’s riots, which took place over five summer days. Producers are targeting a release in 2017 — the 50th anniversary of the riots.

David-Jones plays Green Arrow — aka Connor Hawke — in the CW series “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.” He recently appeared in Lionsgate’s “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” as an officer in the Factionless Army.

David-Jones is represented by Prestige Talent Agency and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
