Justin Chon, Ellie Bamber to Star in Romance Movie ‘Taipei’

Justin Chon and Ellie Bamber are starring in the independent romance “Taipei,” with shooting starting this week in New York.

Jason Lester is directing the film from his own script, based on Tao Lin’s 2013 novel. Mark L. Lester and Jesy Odio are producing with Jeff Sackman and Berry Meyerowitz executive producing.

“Taipei” follows an unexpected, fast-blooming romance between Brooklyn writers Erin and Paul. The story covers a spontaneous wedding, drug binges, all-night urban revels and a trip to Paul’s native Taiwan — where the couple confronts their individual alienation.

“Taipei’ is about love, alienation, loneliness, drugs, writing, technology – how we can exist and connect amidst all of the cultural detritus of the Internet age,” said Lester. “I’m thrilled to be able to bring Tao Lin’s vision to the screen.”

Bamber stars in Tom Ford’s “Nocturnal Animals,” portraying the daughter of Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, and has been cast in Disney’s upcoming “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.”

Chon starred in the “Twilight” franchise and in the film “21 and Over.” His film “Gook,” in which he stars in and directs, was selected this week to premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

Jason Lester is a filmmaker and photographer from Los Angeles. Music video credits include work for Mayer Hawthorne, Beach Slang, We The Kings, The Griswolds, Thrice, La Sera, The Soft Moon, EMA, and Tancred.
