Jake Gyllenhaal is set to co-star with Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson in Skydance’s sci-fi pic “Life.”
Daniel Espinosa is directing the film, with David Ellison and Dana Goldberg producing along with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. The script was written by “Deadpool” duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
Story follows the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected.
Over the past couple of years, Gyllenhaal has demonstrated a good balance of prestige and commercial projects. The boxing drama “Southpaw” and adventure pic “Everest,” which both bowed last year, led to strong reviews for the actor. His 2016 pics, “Demolition” and “Nocturnal Animals,” are expected to be in the mix for next year’s awards season.
This year Gyllenhaal is also expected to shoot “Stronger,” which is based on the true story of one of the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing who helps the police track down the killers while struggling to recover from devastating trauma.
The actor is repped by WME.
