“It Had To Be You,” which had its world premiere at the Austin Film Festival, is slated for an Oct. 21 release.
Milioti plays a neurotic jingle writer who has always dreamt of a big and exciting life. She’s surprised by a sudden proposal and subsequent ultimatum from her easy-going boyfriend, which leads to a solo trip to Rome to shed her inhibitions. However, reality catches up to her as her journey proves a lot bumpier than the idyllic “Eat Pray Love” trip she’d envisioned.
“We were drawn to Sasha’s fresh take on the romantic comedy,” said Melanie Miller at Samuel Goldwyn Films. “Festival goers have embraced the film and we can’t wait to bring it to a wider audience.”
“It Had To Be You” is produced by Rachel Brenna, Richard Arlook (“I Smile Back”), Benjamin Kruger (“Lonelygirl15”) and Levi Abrino (Amazon’s “Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street”).
Chris Columbus, who directed and produced the first two Harry Potter movies, is the executive producer.
Milioti’s credits include FX’s “Fargo,” “Wolf of Wall Street” and CBS’s ”How I Met Your Mother.” Soder’s credits include MTV’s “Guy Code” and Comedy Central’s “Inside Amy Schumer.”
The deal was negotiated by Melanie Miller and Jill Karole of Samuel Goldwyn Films with Michelle Welch and Sam Eigen of Shoreline on behalf of the filmmakers.
