MadRiver Pictures will finance and produce James Gray’s science-fiction epic “Ad Astra.”
Casting should be announced soon, and the production hopes to begin shooting in 2017.
MadRiver’s Kim Fox will handle international sales, while CAA, which represents Gray, packaged and arranged the financing for the film, and will represent its domestic rights.
The deal was announced out of Cannes, which is fitting, as the French have embraced previous Gray films such as “The Immigrants” and “Two Lovers.”
Gray is currently finishing up “Lost City of Z” with Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller, and Tom Holland, the newly minted Spider-Man star.
MadRiver Pictures finances and produces three to four films in the $15 to $50 million budget range. The company is also in production on Peter Landesman’s “Felt” starring Liam Neeson and Diane Lane.
Gray, Keep Your Head Productions’ Anthony Katagas, RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira and MadRiver’s Marc Butan are producing. MadRiver’s Kim Fox is overseeing international sales. Ethan Gross co-wrote the film with Gray.
Gray’s agent, CAA, packaged and arranged the financing for the film. It will represent sales of its domestic rights.
