MGM has won the rights to the Max Landis spec script “Deeper” with Bradley Cooper attached to star. The auction for the spec included several suitors, including Paramount and Odd Lot Entertainment, with MGM delivering the winning bid.
“White God” helmer Kornel Mundruczo is also attached to the project.
The spec was announced last November and involves a former astronaut hired to take a submersible to the lowest point in the ocean. As the submersible gets closer to its destination, supernatural events transpire.
Landis will also produce with David Goyer and Addictive Pictures. Production is expected to start sometime in 2017.
Following the huge deal that saw Landis’ spec “Bright” bring in more than $90 million in production promises and around $4 million for the spec alone, Landis’ projects have all begun to gain speed. “Bright” drew Will Smith and Joel Edgerton to star.
Cooper is in pre-production on his directorial debut “A Star Is Born,” which he also stars in opposite Beyonce. He was most recently seen in David O. Russell’s “Joy.” He is repped by CAA.
Landis is repped by WME and Writ Large.
Deadline Hollywood first reported the sale and Landis confirmed the news on his Twitter account.
