Berlin: Loco Films’ ‘Battle of Sevastopol’ Conquers EFM Buyers (EXCLUSIVE)

Sergey Mokritskiy’s Russian/Ukranian epic WWII drama “Battle of Sevastopol” has conquered worldwide buyers at the European Film Market after topping the Russian B.O. in 2015.

The movie is a biopic of Lyudmila Pavlichenko, a young Soviet woman who joined the Red Army to fight the Nazi invasion of the USSR and became one of the deadliest snipers in World War II. Pic sold to the U.K. (Arrowfilms), Germany (Meteor), former Yugoslavia (MCF), Turkey (Medyavision), Japan (New Select), Hong Kong (VII Pillars Entertainment), Russia, CEI (Fox), Poland (Filmmedia) and Bulgaria (Film Vision).

Seven7 will release in France, Switzerland and Belgium.

Loco Films is in negotiations to close deals in the U.S., Scandinavia and Italy.

Boasting a $20 million budget, the movie follows the journey of Pavlichenko, who was nicknamed “Lady Death” after killing 300 people in one month. She was later enlisted by Soviet ruler Joseph Stalin in 1942 to convince the Americans to get involved in the war.

At Berlin, Loco Films is presenting Anna Muylaert’s “Don’t Call Me Son” in the Panorama section.
