“The Executrix” follows a discontented New York family woman called unexpectedly to Tuscany to execute her estranged mother’s will. She must decipher visions of her forgotten childhood and confront a spectral “Lady in Red” whose dark secret unlocks a terrifying destiny.
Jonathan Caouette (“Tarnation”) will star as the husband in the story. Rade Serbedzija (“Snatch”), Franco Nero (“Django Unchained”), Ninetto Davoli (“Uccelini Uccella,” “Decameron”) Barbara Steel, Stella Schnabel and Daniele Cavalli are also in the cast.
Civetta, wh0 has directed numerous music videos, said that the tone of the film will be similar to early Roman Polanski movies such as “The Tenant” and “Rosemary’s Baby,” while being set in Italy. Soundtrack music will be provided by Ladytron.
“The Executrix” is produced by Civetta’s Quintessence Films. Manu Gargi is the producer in association with Tommaso Bertani and Carlo Lavagna’s Ring Film and Turquoise Horse. Brian Young is the executive producer. Schuman is a co-producer.
Argento’s credits include “XXX” opposite Vin Diesel and “Marie Antoinette” with Kirsten Dunst. Argento also directed “Misunderstood” (“Incompresa”), which played in the Un Certain Regard sidebar in Cannes in 2014 and starred Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Gargi is an an executive producer on Martin Scorsese’s upcoming historical drama “Silence,” starring Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver. Civetta is repped by WME.
