Amy Foster’s ‘Rift’ Set With Ivan Reitman, ‘Spotlight’ Producer Michael Sugar

Michael Sugar and Ivan Reitman have come on board to produce a movie version of Amy S. Foster’s upcoming science-fiction novel “The Rift Uprising.”

Harper Collins will publish “The Rift” in October through its Harper Voyager imprint as the first of a trilogy. The story is set in the Oregon wilderness, where a rift has opened and a group of militarized teens known as the Citadels must protect humankind from hostile creatures that come from the portal.

Production companies are Sugar’s Anonymous Content, Reitman’s Montecito Picture Company and Foundry Media & Literary. Ashley Zalta will executive produce and oversee “The Rift” for Anonymous.

Sugar has been nominated for a best picture Academy Award for “Spotlight” along with Blythe Pagan Faust, Steve Golin and Nicole Rocklin. He’s an exec producer on “The Knick” and a producer on the upcoming Will Smith drama “Collateral Beauty.”

Reitman was nominated for an Oscar for producing “Up in the Air.” He directed the first two “Ghostbusters” and is a producer on the upcoming reboot, starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.

Foster is a songwriter-author known for her collaborations with Michael Buble including “Home,” “Everything” and “Hold On.” Her first book, “When Autumn Leaves,” was published in 2009.

Foster is repped by Foundry Media. The news was first published by the Tracking Board.
