“Star Wars: Episode VIII’s” script is still shrouded in mystery so even the smallest kernel of information goes a long way.
Franchise star Adam Driver — aka Kylo Ren — dropped some clues about the film’s tone in an interview with Collider. The “Girls” alum, who was promoting his new film “Patterson,” compared the upcoming “Episode VIII” to the 1980 epic “The Empire Strikes Back.”
When asked about the script, Driver replied, “It’s great. It’s similar to how ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ has a different tone. For that people always go, ‘oooh, it’s dark,’ but I don’t know that it necessarily is.”
Driver went on to discuss how the film will differ from other “Star Wars” movies.
“It’s just different in tone in a way that I think is great and necessary, but also very clear,” Driver said. “[Writer Rian Johnson] trusts [that] his audience is ready for nuance and ambiguity. He’s not dumbing anything down for someone and that’s really fun to play.”
While little has been revealed about “Star Wars: Episode VIII,” fans of the saga can get their “Star Wars” fix this December with the prequel “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” starring Felicity Jones and Diego Luna. “Rogue One” opens on Dec. 16, while “Episode VIII” hits theaters almost exactly a year later on Dec. 15, 2017.
