Strand Releasing has acquired all North American rights to Alain Guiraudie’s dark comedy “Staying Vertical,” which world premiered in competition at Cannes.
“Staying Vertical” marks the French helmer’s first time in competition and his follow-up to Un Certain Regard wining “Stranger By The Lake” — which was also picked up by Strand Releasing and performed well.
“Staying Vertical” stars Damien Bonnard as a filmmaker, Leo, who in the process of finishing his screenplay in a series of unexpected sexual situations that leave him in some very uncomfortable but humorous scenarios.
“We’re thrilled to be handling Alain’s latest film. Alain’s unique and personal vision is a great addition to this year’s main competition and he’s definitely an auteur that we love,” said Strand Releasing’s co-founder Marcus Hu.
The L.A.-based distributor plans to release “Staying Vertical” in early 2017.
“Strand is the perfect home for “Staying Vertical.” As we’ve worked with Strand for over 20 years, it’s a pleasure to have another auteur driven film in their library,” added Baraton.
“Staying Vertical” was produced by Sylvie Pialat and Benoit Quainon at Les Films du Worso.
Strand Releasing’s current slate includes Catherine Corsini’s “Summertime,” Andre Techie’s “Being 17,” Athina Rachael Tsangari’s “Chevalier,” Lorenzo Vigas’”From Afar” and Andrew Ahn’s “Spa Night.”
