ROME — True Colours, the Italo sales company recently launched by Indigo Film and Lucky Red, has taken world sales on hit Italo ensemble pic “Perfect Strangers,” ahead of its international launch at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival.
Directed by Paolo Genovese, “Strangers” has scored a whopping 16 million Euros ($18 million), notching up 2.5 million admissions in Italy since its early February release via Medusa. It is the only Italian entry in Tribeca’s International Narrative Competition section. Pic is co-produced by Leone Film Group’s recently acquired Lotus Productions shingle with Medusa.
High concept dramedy is set during a dinner party where seven friends decide to play a dangerous game. Each places their cell phone on the table and agrees to make all texts and calls public, in an attempt to prove that they have nothing to hide. The Italo A-list cast comprises Alba Rohrwacher (“I Am Love”), Kasia Smutniak (“From Paris With Love”), and Valerio Mastandrea (“The First Beautiful Thing”).
“Perfect Strangers” marks a nice coup for True Colours. Pic is generating interest and buzz on the international market both as a direct sale and as a remake title. Medusa topper Giampaolo Letta recently revealed that prior to True Colours officially handling the pic talks were under way with a dozen territories, including the U.S., Germany, France, Spain, Turkey and several Arab territories.
