CANNES — Cohen Media Group has partnered up with Agnès Varda and dynamic artist known as JR on an untitled documentary.
Cohen Media Group has picked up North American distribution and world sales rights outside of France, Germany and China.
Now in production, the docu project is a celebration of images, still and moving, and the way they are shown, shared and exhibited.
Varda is an iconic filmmaker whose credits include “Cleo from 5 to 7,” “Vagabond” and “The Beaches of Agnès.” JR is a famed artist who exhibits freely in the streets of the world, catching the attention of people who are not typical museum visitors.
“Agnès Varda is a visionary director. Her curiosity about the world she lives in has fed her amazing work for more than 60 years, and she finds yet more to say and reveal in this unique work that will captivate all who experience it,” said CMG’s Charles Cohen.
The untitled project will focus on faces, encounters, huge images related to people and mostly the growth of an unlikely friendship between a 33 year old youngster and an 88 year old lady.
“As my life draws to a close, I find myself wanting to see ever more faces, to film or photograph them, to keep them in images if not in my memory. JR, with his imagination and talent, gives me the opportunity to create with him new ways to share images,” said Varda.
Deal was brokered by CMG exec producer John Kochman and producer Rosalie Varda on behalf of Varda’s Cine Tamaris and JR’s Social Animals.
