Laura Katz, who has led Cutting Edge Music Services in Los Angeles for two years, is starting Supe Troop as a specialist in music supervision services for film and TV, Variety has learned exclusively.

Music supervisor Chris Piccaro and music coordinator Lauren Weiss have also joined Supe Troop. The new company will work with Cutting Edge projects and other films including “Gemini!” starring Lola Kirke, Zoe Kravitz and John Cho.

Katz provided music services on “The Grey,” “That Awkward Moment,” “Stuck in Love” and “Tallulah.” She has three films screening at the Toronto Film Festival: “Their Finest,” “The Limehouse Golem” and “Message From the King.”

Cutting Edge CEO Philip Moross said, “I’ve always had the philosophy that you need to empower the best talent in order to keep them in your orbit. Laura, Chris, and Lauren have been a vital part of the Cutting Edge family over the past six years, and I’m very proud to be able to support them in the launch of Supe Troop and enable other producers and filmmakers to access the benefit of their extraordinary work-ethic and creative talent.”

Seven-year-old CEG has invested in “Everest,” “Whiplash,” “Fury,” “John Wick,” “The King’s Speech,” “Drive,” “Looper” and “End of Watch” in exchange for music publishing rights and handles scoring, clearances and music supervision in films.
