Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired worldwide rights to the Anna Biller’s “The Love Witch” and plans to bring the film to festivals prior to its theatrical release.

The movie had its world premiere at the Rotterdam Film Festival and its U.S. debut at the Maryland Film Festival. It will next be seen in June as part of BAM Cinemafest.

The pic centers on a beautiful young witch, played by Samantha Robinson, who uses spells and potions to pick up and seduce men. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved drives her to the brink of insanity and murder.

Oscilloscope’s Dan Berger said, “Holy s—, this movie is awesome. Anna has deftly and masterfully made a film that completely defies classification. It will no doubt draw countless comparisons to predecessors, but it is wholly unique. Her remarkable eye for detail and witty feminist commentary make this a true pleasure to behold.”

The deal was announced Wednesday at the Cannes Film Festival. Biller’s credits include 2007’s “Viva.”
