A24 has acquired U.S. rights to David Robert Mitchell’s crime thriller “Under the Silver Lake,” starring Andrew Garfield.

Mitchell is set to direct from his own script with the story taking place in modern-day Los Angeles. The project is Mitchell’s  follow-up to his horror thriller “It Follows.”

Production is set to start at the end of summer. Insiders is handling international distribution and selling the film at the Cannes Film Festival.

Michael De Luca, producer of the “50 Shades of Grey” trilogy, is producing under his Michael De Luca Productions banner. Chris Bender, Jake Weiner and Adele Romanski are producing as well.

Lucy Kitada is overseeing for Michael De Luca Productions.

“It Follows,” which premiered in 2014 at the Cannes Film Festival, grossed more than $20 million worldwide. Mitchell’s first feature, “The Myth of the American Sleepover,” premiered at the SXSW Film Festival, winning a special jury prize, and premiered internationally at Cannes Critics’ Week.

Garfield most recently starred in “99 Homes” and will next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s “Silence” and Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge.”

CAA, which represents Mitchell and Garfield, packaged the project and brokered the domestic and international distribution deals. Mitchell is also represented by Benderspink, and attorney David Fox. Garfield is repped by Gordon and French in the U.K., and attorney David Weber.
