Korea Box Office: ‘Zootopia’ Retains Weekend Top Spot

Zootopia” enjoyed its second weekend on top of the Korea box office in its fifth week of release.

Released on Feb. 17, the Walt Disney animation debuted and remained in third place for three weeks, but jumped to top in its fourth weekend, when newcomers failed to impose. “Zootopia” earned $2.52 million between Friday and Sunday, for a total of $18.7 million from 2.81 million admissions after five weekends.

London Has Fallen” climbed to second place from the previous week’s third. It earned $1.36 between Friday and Sunday, extending its total to $4.25 million after two weekends.

Local drama, “Spirits’ Homecoming” slipped to third, making $1.02 million between Friday and Sunday. The crowdfunded historical drama has made $22.3 million after four weekends on release. It opened in North America on Mar. 11 by Pan Media.

Local revenge thriller “Missing You” remained in fourth, scoring $998,000 between Friday and Sunday for a total of $3.92 million after two weeks. “Gods of Egypt” earned $471,000 between Friday and Sunday, for a total of $6.39 million after three weekends.

Three newcomers, Robert De Niro-starring comedy “Dirty Grandpa,” biblical drama “Risen,” and British spy flick “Spooks: The Greater Good” debuted in sixth, eighth and tenth, respectively. “Grandpa” scored $395,600 between Thursday and Sunday. Sony’s “Risen” made $210,500 over four opening days. A spin off of BBC One series “Spooks,” “Greater Good” earned $209,000 over four days.
