The Revenant” and the studio behind the gritty drama, 20th Century Fox, dominated the 2016 Oscar nominations on Thursday morning. The film nabbed 12 noms for best picture, best director (Alejandro González Iñárritu), best actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and best supporting actor (Tom Hardy).

Action-adventure “Mad Max: Fury Road,” another Hardy-starrer, was runner-up with 10 nods, including best picture and best director (George Miller). Meanwhile, “Spotlight,” “Carol” and “Bridge of Spies” tied with six nominations apiece.

Fox ruled the 88th Annual Academy Awards nominations with 26 nods, including seven for “The Martian,” three for its specialty label Fox Searchlight’s “Brooklyn,” one for “Joy,” one for “Youth” and six for “Bridge of Spies” — shared with Disney. Disney came in second with 15 tallies — the six aforementioned nominations for Steven Spielberg’s “Bridge of Spies,” five for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and two for Pixar’s “Inside Out.”

Warner Bros.’ “Mad Max” notched 10 of the studio’s 11 total noms. The Weinstein Company landed 10 nods thanks to “Carol” and “The Hateful Eight.” This marks the first time Harvey Weinstein hasn’t had a top nominee since 2007. Indie distributor A24 made a strong showing with seven Oscars nominations for “Room,” “Ex Machina” and the Amy Winehouse documentary “Amy.”
