‘La La Land’ Scores Three Hollywood Music in Media Nominations

La La Land” has scored a leading three Hollywood Music in Media Awards nominations for Justin Hurwitz’s score, and two songs performed by stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

Stone, who plays an actress in the film, performed “Audition,” written by Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul. Gosling sang “City of Stars,” also written by Hurwitz, Pasek, and Paul.

Other nominees for the original score award are Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka for “Lion”; Henry Jackman for “Birth of a Nation”; Mica Levi for “Jackie”; Nicholas Britell for “Moonlight”; and Rupert Gregson-Williams for “Hacksaw Ridge.”

The other four nominees for original song are “Dancing With Your Shadow” for “Po,” written by Burt Bacharach and performed by Sheryl Crow; “Down With Mary” for “Too Late,” written and performed by John Hawkes; “The Rules Don’t Apply” for “Rules Don’t Apply,” written by Eddie Arkin and Lorraine Feather, and performed by Lily Collins; and “Runnin’ for “Hidden Figures, written and performed by Pharrell Williams.

The 2016 HMMA event will be held at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Education Through Music – Los Angeles. Past honorees include Smokey Robinson, Glen Campbell, Dave Mason, Christopher Young, and John Debney.

The winners are determined by music-media industry professionals comprised of select members of the Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL), The Television Academy, the AMPAS Music Branch, NARAS, performing rights organizations, film music journalists, and music executives.
