Character entertainment outfit Graphic India and Stan Lee’s POW Entertainment have struck a partnership with Phantom Films to begin pre-production on “Chakra the Invincible”, a live action theatrical film version of Lee’s animated superhero property.
Vikramaditya Motwane, who made 2010 Cannes selection “Udaan,” will direct. He is currently working on the screenplay with Lee and Graphic’s Sharad Devarajan.
The animated property was about Raju, a boy from Mumbai whose mentor, develops a suit that activates the chakras of the human body and gives the user superpowers. The live action film has Raju as an adult in his twenties, battling villains in Mumbai.
Phantom is a production house backed by filmmakers Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, Motwane and Madhu Mantena. Kashyap’s “Raman Raghav 2.0” will premiere at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in May.
Mantena will produce the “Chakra” live action film alongside Devarajan and POW’s Gill Champion. Datta Dave, Motwane’s agent at Tulsea, structured the deal.
“I am really excited about launching ‘Chakra the Invincible’ as my first Bollywood superhero movie,” said Lee. “Vikramaditya is an amazingly talented filmmaker who I have no doubt can make the Chakra film a massive hit in India and around the world. I only hope he remembers to include my cameo.”
