‘Resident Evil: Vendetta’ set for 2017 Release in Japan

TOKYO — “Resident Evil: Vendetta,” a full CG animation based on the popular Capcom games series, will be released in Japanese cinemas in Spring 2017.

The announcement was made at the Tokyo Game Show, where fans were treated to a clip and images from the movie. Details about the plot, which features zombies and creatures created by a mysterious virus and their battles with human opponents, were not forthcoming. It was revealed that it will feature characters Leon S. Kennedy (“Resident Evil 4”), Chris Redfield (“Resident Evil 5”,) and Rebecca Chambers.

The film is being directed Takanori Tsujimoto (“Hard Revenge Milly,” “Ultraman X”) and scripted by Makoto Fukami (“Psycho-Pass”.)

The executive producer is Takashi Shimizu, the horror-meister best known for the “Grudge” series. The executive supervisor is Hiroyuki Kobayashi, developer of the “Resident Evil” game. CGI animation outfit Marza Animation Planet is handling production.

Meanwhile, live-action film, “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” starring Milla Jovovich and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, will open in Japan on December 23 and in North America on January 27, simultaneous with the release of the new “Resident Evil 7” game for Xbox One,  PS4 and PCs.
