TOKYO – “Your Name,” a teen romance with a heavy fantasy overlay by anime maestro Makoto Shinkai, bowed atop the Japanese box office. Released on Friday on 301 screens by Toho, the film earned $9.1 million on 688,000 admissions for the Aug. 27-28 weekend and is now expected to finish near the $60 million mark.

Toho-Towa’s “The Secret Lives of Pets” fell to number two in its third weekend. Recording $2.9 million for the weekend, the film drove its cumulative total to $30 million after 18 days.

Highest ranking among the newcomers, at number four, was “Black Widow Business.” A comedy about a middle-aged woman (Shinobu Otake) who scams well-off elderly men, scored $2.1 million in its opening frame with Toho distributing.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” debuted at a disappointing number ten, with Towa Pictures distributing. It is forecast to fall short of the $12 million final total of the previous entry in the rebooted series, in 2014.
