Makoto Shinkai’s teen fantasy “Your Name” led the Japanese box office for the third weekend. Distributed by Toho, the film earned $11.1 million on 852,000 admissions for the Sept. 10-11 frame, driving its cumulative total to $61 million and raising the possibility that it might pass the $100 million mark.
Ranking highest among the new entries to the top ten, at number two, was “Suicide Squad.” With Warner distributing, it recorded $3.8 million in its first two days. Boosted by this strong start, the film is forecast to finish above $20 million.
Bowing at number three was “Your Lie in April,” a live-action teen romance based on a popular comic and animation. Released on 294 screens by Toho, the film took in $2.35 million. With core fans being girls in junior and senior high school, the film looks likely to clear the $15 million hurdle.
In its seventh weekend on release, Toho’s “Shin Godzilla” pushed its total admissions to 4.2 million, a record for the current Godzilla series.
