FilMart: China’s HGC Switches on to Content’s ‘Higher Power’

“Higher Power,” a sci-fi feature from U.S. and U.K. sales and finance company Content Media, has been acquired for China by HGC.

Other deals on the movie, produced by the veteran Lorenzo di Bonaventura, include those for Japan (with CCC / Culture Entertainment), Korea (with Entermode), pan regional pay-TV (Fox International), India (PVR), Malaysia and Vietnam (VSG), Philippines (Pioneer), Singapore (Shaw) and Thailand (Sahamongkol).

The film about an everyman who risks his life to save his daughter, and ends up with powers beyond his imagination, is directed by Matthew Santoro. It stars Ron Eldard (“Black Hawk Down”), Colm Feore (“The Chronicles of Riddick”), Jordan Hinson, Austin Stowell and Jade Tailor.

Content also sold supernatural horror film “Don’t Knock Twice” to India’s PVR, Indonesia’s Rapi Films, Rain Film for Malaysia and Vietnam, Pioneer for the Philippines, Taiwan’s CMC Content, Thailand’s M Pictures, and pan-regional pay TV to Fox International.

Sci-fi action-thriller “Pandemic,” starring Rachel Nichols (“Star Trek”), Mekhi Phifer (“Insurgent,” “Divergent”), Missi Pyle (“Gone Girl”), Alfie Allen and Danielle Rose Russell, was sold to Japan (CCC / Culture Entertainment), Korea (Entermode), Indonesia (PT Prima), Malaysia (GSC), Philippines (Pioneer), Thailand (Sahamongkol), Vietnam (BHD) and for pan-regional pay TV to Fox International. Directed by John Suits (“The Scribbler”), “Pandemic” is told from a first-person shooter perspective.

Content Media recently closed a multifaceted deal with Bruno Wu’s Beijing-based Seven Stars Entertainment and Media in which Content acquired the Alive Group of companies, allowing Content to distribute its library of film and television rights through Alive to the Chinese market. Seven Stars also made a direct equity investment into Content.
