AFM: Festival Hits ‘Shadows,’ ‘Wailing,’ ‘Yourself’ Sell Well for Finecut

Japanese distributor Aya Pro and British distributor Soda Pictures have acquired rights to “The Age of Shadows,” South Korea’s Warner Bros.-backed foreign-language Oscar contender.

In deals with sales agency Finecut, the film has also recently been picked up by California Filmes for Latin America, CJ E& M for Singapore and M Pictures for Thailand. The theatrical release in Singapore will be handled by Warner Bros.

The eve of AFM sales are in addition to a slew of earlier deals that included CJ Entertainment for North America and Madman Entertainment for Australia and New Zealand.

The Wailing,” the shamanistic murder fantasy that debuted in Cannes this year, scored new sales through Finecut with California Filmes for Latin America and Mayfly for Poland.

Finecut also concluded deals with France’s Les Acacias, Spain’s La Aventura and Taiwan’s AV-Jet for “Yourself And Yours.” The film by Hong Sang-soo premiered in Toronto and earned Hong the best director award in San Sebastian.
