YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Just before Christmas, conservative political firebrand Sarah Palin slapped a $2,499,000 million price tag on her walled and gated getaway estate on the northern outskirts of Scottsdale, Arizona, as was first revealed by the property gossips at the L.A. Times. The former governor of Alaska, 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, New York Times bestselling author, and occasional reality television personality paid $1.695 million — in cash — for the 4.41-acre spread in the affluent, semi-rural/semi-suburban Pinnacle Peak area in May 2011, when she was still pulling down a fat paycheck as a Tea Party championing political pundit on Fox News. The 7,971-square-foot stone and stucco mansion — let’s call it a desert contemporary for lack of other architectural classification— is described in current online listings as “Masterfully designed” and was built in 2001 with total of six bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, and generously and expensively air-conditioned garage space for six cars.

The scrupulously all-beige interior spaces feature dramatic double-height ceilings, slab stone tile floors, wrought iron stair railings, and numerous indoor and outdoor fireplaces fronted by chunky, elaborately ornamented cast concrete mantelpieces. The combination living/dining space, which opens to the backyard through glass doors, has a built-in entertainment center and wraps around to a many angled and good-sized if generically outfitted eat-in kitchen with hickory-toned raised panel cabinetry, charcoal-colored granite counter tops, and a complete collection of stainless steel appliances that include two full-sized fridge/freezers, a warming drawer, and two under-counter ovens. Entertainment spaces in the fully finished basement level, accessible from both interior and exterior staircases, include an all but windowless family room with wet bar, wine cellar, and an unfurnished home theater with tiered seating platforms. Four guest/family bedrooms on the main floor each have an attached bathroom and the master suite on the upper floor encompasses a bedroom with corner fireplace, walk-in closet, bathroom, and a private, pergola-shaded terrace with outdoor fireplace and panoramic, over-the-rooftops desert and mountain view. The no doubt heavily secured estate’s recreational amenities are unquestionably many and include a loggia to escape the blistering desert sun, a built-in grilling station, lighted outdoor basketball court, five-cup putting green, bocce court, several patches of desert tolerant synthetic grass, a fire pit, swimming pool, spa, and an open air poolside cabana with fireplace and wet bar.

The Palins primary residence remains a 4.29-acre spread on Lucille Lake in Wasilla, AK, and our research indicates they also keep a couple of vacation cabins near Petersville, about 100 miles due north of their Wasilla compound on the scenic shore of remote Safari Lake.
