‘Ridiculousness’ Host Rob Dyrdek Lists Above Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles

SELLER: Rob Dyrdek
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $3,495,000
SIZE: 3,733 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms.

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Twenty-one-time “Guinness World Record” setting professional skateboarder turned reality television host Rob Dyrdek has had terrible real estate luck over the last few years — more on that in a minute — but he seems to have been sprinkled with four-leaf clovers recently because, as was first spotted by the eagle-eyed property gossip at the L.A. Times, less than two weeks after he his current residence in the pricey but little heralded Laurel Hills neighborhood between Los Angeles’s Laurel and Coldwater canyons popped up for sale with an asking price of $3.495 million the property already has an accepted offer.

The 40-something-year-old host of the viral video clip show “Ridiculousness,” married last fall to currently preggers September 2013 Playboy Playmate of the Month Bryiana Noelle Flores, purchased the 3,733-square-foot, circa 1977 house in June 2012 for $2.5 million and online marketing materials show the fairly generically contemporary four-bed/three-bath residence sits behind gates that open a motor court, single-car car port and three-car garage. Flannel grey limestone tile floors runs throughout open-plan entertainment and recreation spaces that include a living room with clerestory windowed vaulted ceiling, angled fireplace sheathed in stone, super-sized television mounted on metal poles in front of a creamy white textured tile wall, and a deep and wide bay window that opens to the backyard. The adjoining dining area, which was completely closed off from the living room when Dyrdek bought the house, is furnished with a humongous live-edge dining table surrounded by ten Eames or Eames-style molded plastic dining chairs upholstered in white leather or pleather and the neighboring U-shaped kitchen, which does not appear to have had any substantial alterations made since Dyrdek bought the house, opens over a long peninsula counter to a breakfast nook that, in turn, opens through glass sliders to the backyard.

The master suite features glossy Brazilian walnut floorboards and an entire wall of glass sliders to the backyard. The walk-in closet has snazzy zebra wood shelving and the spacious, clean-lined bathroom is luxuriously appointed with a marble-topped double-sink vanity, glass-enclosed steam-equipped shower, glass sliders that open to a deck with city lights view hot tub, and, most unusually and, well, kind of bizarrely, two soaking tubs set end-to-end in a single marble base. The back of the house opens to a poolside veranda and stone-tiled sunbathing terrace. There’s also a pergola-shaded dining patio with an outdoor kitchen, a tiny patch of lawn, a long bar positioned to take advantage of panoramic views over the San Fernando Valley, and a built-in fire pit craftily created from what appears to be the riveted cowling of a jet engine casing.

Fortunately for Mister Dyrdek and his financial bottom line, he’s likely to realize a healthy profit on the sale of his house but, alas, much of the wind fall will only re-coup what he lost on two other homes he sold at substantial losses in previous years. In May 2008 he paid $2.549 million for a boxy contemporary in the Mount Olympus neighborhood above Laurel Canyon that was sold in November 2012 for $2.125 million, a $334,000 loss not counting upkeep costs, improvement expenses and real estate fees. The following March (2013), after nearly five long years on and off the market at increasingly lower prices, he took an additional $220,000 wallop to his back account — also not counting upkeep costs, improvement expenses and real estate fees — on a mid-1960s multi-level modern in the Hollywood Knolls neighborhood near Lake Hollywood that he bought in 2005 for $1.395 million and sold for $1.175 million to, we were told at the time by trusted veteran celebrity real estate snitch Lucy Spillerguts, curly-maned “Workaholics” star Blake Anderson.
