Mindy Kaling Chops Price on Sunset Strip Fixer Upper (EXCLUSIVE)

SELLER: Mindy Kaling
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $1,995,000
SIZE: 1,599 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Funny lady Mindy Kaling has gotten dead serious, it seems, about selling an unwanted fixer-upper above the western terminus of L.A.’s ever-bustling Sunset Strip that’s newly re-listed with a new and substantially lower asking price of $1.995 million. Nominated six times for her role on “The Office” and currently the writer, executive producer and star of the essentially eponymous sitcom “The Mindy Project,” Miz Kaling purchased the city view property just over three years ago, in May 2013, for $1.695 million. This property gossip can’t claim any inside intel on what her plans may have been but by October 2015 she’d experienced a change of real estate heart and put the property, near the swanky border between West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, up for sale with a far too optimistic $2.6 million price tag that was eventually and significantly chopped to a still Utopian $2.35 million before it was taken off the market in late March of this year.

The property is now being marketed as “the best, most exciting view lot available under $2,000,000”, which we take to mean the existing residence is ripe for razing and replacing or, at the very least, a radical re-imagining. Improbably perched preposterously high above the street on a precipitously up-sloped .14-acre parcel at the end of a forbidding and quad-straining staircase, the two-story house that now stands on the property is configured per listing details with three bedrooms and three bathrooms in 1,599-square-feet. Open plan living spaces on the main floor have honey-hued hardwood floors and broad banks of not quite floor-to-ceiling windows that provide panoramic views. There’s a white brick corner fireplace in the living room area and the slightly raised dining area is open to an angled kitchen outfitted with medium-grade stainless steel appliances and gutsy cobalt blue ceramic tile countertops on also honey-hued cabinets with silly squiggly drawer pulls. One of the bedrooms appears to be located just inside the front door and two bedrooms on the upper floor open to a wrap-around pergola-shaded deck with spine tingling views that sweep over West Hollywood and Beverly Hills and, on a clear day, stretch well beyond the glistening knot of towers that make up the Century City skyline to the Pacific Ocean.

Miz Kaling, who at 36-years-old has already penned not one but two memoirs and was reported last year to have signed a $7.5 million deal to co-author a third book with her former co-worker, on again/off again ex-boyfriend, and close friend B.J. Novak, continues to own a four-bedroom and three-bathroom late 1920s Spanish Revival hacienda style cottage in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of West Hollywood that she acquired per property records and other online resources in November 2007 for $1.575 million.
