Jerry Zucker Lists Mandeville Canyon Spread (EXCLUSIVE)

SELLER: Jerry and Janet Zucker
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $16,500,000
SIZE: (approx.) 10,000 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A casually luxurious estate in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles, owned by veteran Hollywood hyphenate Jerry Zucker, has come available with an asking price of $16.5 million. Property records indicate the slapstick comedy king, who wrote, directed and/or produced classic knee-slappers like “Airplane!” and the “Naked Gun” franchise, purchased the property in 1990 for a touch more than $4.1 million from the now deceased widow of late singer-actor-comedian Dennis Day.

According to advance marketing materials provided by listing agents Ann Eysenring and Billy Rose at The Agency, the traditional, clapboard-sided 1939 Colonial manse was originally designed by architect John Byers with later upgrades and additions by Michael S. Smith, the heralded interior designer responsible for the most recent decorative overhaul of the Oval Office. All but invisible behind a dense screen of mature specimen trees on more than 1.6 acres in the laid-back and semi-rustic yet still conspicuously wealthy upper Mandeville Canyon area, the boomerang-shaped residence measures in at around 10,000 square feet with six bedrooms and a dozen bathrooms, plus a 400-square-foot guesthouse. Generously proportioned formal living and dining rooms open off the central foyer and are joined by a mahogany-paneled library and an eat-in kitchen with up-to-date appliances and a combination of green marble and white ceramic tile countertops. A second-floor screening room has a 35mm projection system, tiered seating and wet bar. The back of the house angles around and opens to a commodious tree-shaded terrace with outdoor fireplace. It’s a short stroll across a flat lawn to a swimming pool surrounded by ample flagstone terracing and a brief walk through a sylvan setting to a sunny clearing with lighted pickleball court and lattice-clad viewing pavilion.
