Corbin Bernsen and Amanda Pays Flipping Refreshed Mid-Century Ranch House in Sherman Oaks

SELLERS: Corbin Bernsen and Amanda Pays
LOCATION: Sherman Oaks, CA
PRICE: $1,549,000
SIZE: 2,400 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: After it was first shopped off-market at a slightly higher price, veteran Tinseltowners and avocational house flippers Corbin Bernsen and Amanda Pays have officially hoisted their latest project, a stylishly refreshed mid-century era ranch-style residence tucked up into the hills above Sherman Oaks, CA, on the open market with an asking price of $1.549 million.

The couple purchased the property less then a year ago, in August 2015, for $1,275,000 and listing details show the late 1940s residence is privately set on an elevated plateau at the end of a snaking driveway on .47-acre parcel that backs up to rugged open space. The single-story house measures in at about 2,400-square-feet with three bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a small office with outside entrance. Sparely pared back to its architectural essentials — i.e. white painted brick walls, polished concrete floors and open beam ceilings — the living room has a wide bank of glass sliders and a television-surmounted fireplace set between open bookshelves that extend decadently all the way to the ceiling. In the adjoining dining room there are more floor-to-ceiling bookshelves while the comfortably ample and sky-lit kitchen has a huge center work island with integrated two-stool snack counter and is fitted with stark white counter tops on seal grey Shaker-style cabinetry. At least one the guest/family bedrooms has direct access to a renovated bathroom as does the master bedroom that also features a white brick fireplace and glass sliders that open to a tree-shaded deck and flag stone patio with canyon-framed views that extend clear over the San Fernando Valley to the San Gabriel Mountains.

Besides their ongoing involvement in the business of show the Bernsen-Pays are occasional and increasingly active property flippers who, as it turns out, have sold several of their previous homes and/or renovation projects to other entertainment industry movers and shakers. Way back in 1995 they sold a 7,005-square-foot Beverly Hills residence for $3.175 to comedian Steve Martin and last year (2015), about a month before they sold their personal residence in the Valley Village area of the San Fernando Valley for $2.255 million to, according to property records, “Lucifer” writer/producer Sheri Elwood and “Sons of Anarchy” writer/producer Dave Erickson, they passed off an unassuming but stylishly decked out, 2,039-square-foot residence in the Toluca Lake area for $1.4 million to newly divorced “Scorpion” star Katherine McPhee.

Mister Bernsen — his mother was the late and legendary, two-time Emmy-winning soap-story star Jeanne Cooper who appeared for four decades on “The Young and the Restless” — made a name for himself shaking his handsome tail feathers on the “L.A. Law” series in the 1980s and ‘90s. More recently he’s had recurring roles on the TV series “Psych” as well as his mother’s daytime drama alma mater and according to the Internet Movie Data Base he has half of a dozen silver screen roles in various stages of production. Miz Pays, a London-born actress turned interior designer and budding home stager, has reprised her role in the currently airing TV series “The Flash” after she starred in the original, short-lived series in the early 1990s.
