SELLER: Ali Landry
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
SIZE: 3,200 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A Los Angeles home owned by beauty queen turned actress Ali Landry has come up for sale, for at least the third time since 2013, with an asking price of $2.395 million. Property records show the former Miss USA title holder, whose big showbiz break came in 1998 as the so-called “Doritos Girl” in a Super Bowl commercial — a high-profile advert that got her named to People magazine’s annual list of the 50 most beautiful people in the world that same year, purchased the property in August 2004, a couple of months after she put the kibosh on her two-week marriage to “Extra” host Mario Lopez and smack in the middle of her three-season run on the sitcom “Eve,” for $1,099,000. Our research indicates the property was briefly on the market in May and June of 2013 with a $1.925 million price tag that jumped slightly to $1.945 million when it was re-listed in May 2014.
Current online marketing materials, which make no secret the home is celebrity owned, show the brick-red 1920s Spanish-style residence measures about 3,200-square-feet over three floors and features extensive tile work, original iron accents, and several stained glass windows. Imported terra-cotta tile floors in the slender foyer switch to ashy brown hardwoods in the living room that features a barrel-vaulted coved ceiling and fireplace with chunky hand hewn wood beam mantelpiece. An adjoining sun porch has built-in bookshelves and opens through two sets of side-by-side French doors to a trellis-shaded dining terrace and the formal dining room, which also opens out to the dining terrace, links the living room to the L-shaped kitchen with dark brown raised panel cabinetry, mottled yellow-beige slab granite counter tops, older but higher end appliances, a large and convenient work island with integrated snack bar, and an elaborately tiled niche into which the range top is set.
Listing details indicate the house has five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms but our research shows there are actually just three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms in the main part of the house plus an attached, studio-style apartment for staff or guests with full kitchen and private bathroom along with a couple of large rooms on the lowest level that flank a laundry room and full bathroom and could be used as bedrooms. Just off the front entrance there’s an en suite guest/family bedroom and upstairs there’s another guest/family bedroom that opens to a charming street-side balcony but less than ideally shares a hall-accessed compartmentalized bathroom with the otherwise nicely outfitted master suite that offers a custom-fitted bedroom-size dressing room and French doors to a wrap around veranda with through-the-telephone wires city view. On the lowest level one of the rooms that could be used as a bedroom is outfitted instead as a children’s playroom and another, larger room furnished as an office/den/library opens through a bank of French door-style glass sliders to a tropically landscaped courtyard style backyard with what listings describe as a “5’ deep/20 person spa/fountain.”
We confess we haven’t a clue where Miz Landry and her Mexican-born filmmaker husband Alejandro Monteverde (“Little Boy”) plan to move once they finally unload this house in Los Feliz but if we were the wagering type — and we’re not — we’d bet two year’s worth of double chocolate seven layer cakes the parents of three young buckaroos have their real estate hearts set on a family friendly pad with more bedrooms, a bigger yard and maybe even a swimming pool.
