SELLER: Alfonso Ribeiro
LOCATION: Toluca Lake, CA
PRICE: $1,449,000
SIZE: 3,941 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms (total)

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: An unassuming residence in L.A.’s upscale Toluca Lake area, billed in online marketing details as a “Beautiful celebrity family home” and owned per property records by “America’s Funniest Home Videos” host Alfonso Ribeiro, has popped up for sale on the open market at $1,449,000. Mister Ribeiro, who became an everlasting pop cultural meme as the strait-laced and wacky dancing preppy Carlton Banks on the 1980s sit-com “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and won the 19th season of “Dancing With the Stars,” acquired the property in June 2004 for $729,000 and current online marketing materials indicate the main residence, originally built in the 1940s but since substantially updated and expanded, measures in at 3,941-square-feet over two floors with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. A wee, studio-style guesthouse attached to the backside of the detached two-car garage located near the rear of the .19-acre parcel includes a full kitchen and the property’s pint-sized fifth bathroom.

There’s a blue-walled formal living room with fireplace and reddish-toned dark brown wood floors just off the entrance hall and the center island kitchen, updated per listing details by HGTV’s “Kitchen Cousins,” overlooks the driveway that runs up the side of the house and features stone counter tops on striated wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and some sort of wavy wall treatment that, if we’re being honest, makes this property gossip feel a mite squeamish. The kitchen has a small dining area with built-in desk that links through to the formal living room. The adjacent, wood-floored dining space, backed by an unsightly wall of glass block windows, steps down to a carpeted family room with built-in entertainment center, French doors, and a raised fireplace with a green marble surround.

There are three average-sized guest/family bedrooms on the main floor — one of them en suite — and the upper floor is given over entirely to the master suite comprised of a wall-to-wall carpeted bedroom with fireplace and vaulted ceiling. There’s also a walk-in closet and a spacious if decoratively outdated bathroom with disturbing flesh-colored floor tiles, a jetted garden tub, and a separate steam-equipped shower. For the record, the collection of faux-greenery set on top of the shower stall makes this property gossip even more squeamish than the wavy wall treatment in the kitchen but that’s neither here not there in the grand scheme of things and both faux pas are easily and inexpensively remedied. Anyhoo…. A private den/office off the master opens to step-out balcony cantilevered over the flat and compact backyard that manages to squeeze in a concrete dining terracing, a three-cup putting green, a modest swimming pool, and a separate spa.

Property records suggest Mister Ribeiro and his Midwestern born an bred mommy blogger wife, Angela Unkrich, decamped centrally located and celeb-saturated Toluca Lake for the much more remote suburb of Granada Hills in the northern reaches of the San Fernando Valley where in October 2015 property records show they shelled out $1,937,500 for a 7,530-square-foot residence in a small gated enclave. Listing details we dug up show the quasi-Tuscan style manse has a total of eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms, separate 1,500-square-foot recreation room with night club lighting, palapa-shaded outdoor kitchen, and a Las Vegas resort-style swimming pool decked out with waterfall, grotto, four-seat swim-up bar, and integrated LED lighting system.
