Yahoo is gearing up to launch live video streaming on Tumblr: The company will launch a live video product built on top of its Tumblr blogging platform Tuesday, according to a TechCrunch report that references leaks on Tumblr itself.

Earlier on Monday, some users discovered Livevideo.Tumblr.com, a Tumblr blog that teases multiple live streams on the site, including an appearance of one of the members of the Harlem Globetrotters and something that’s being billed as a live stream “from the surface of Mars.”

There’s no word yet from Yahoo confirming the initiative; a spokesperson declined to comment. However, Techcrunch is reporting that it has confirmed the initiative with unnamed sources. According to that report, Yahoo is going to unveil a larger live content initiative on Tuesday that will include an option for Tumblr users to stream live video as well.

With such a move, Yahoo would directly compete with Facebook Live and Twitter’s Periscope platform. However, it’s not the first time that Yahoo has dabbled in live video streaming. The company unveiled a social live streaming service dubbed Yahoo Live back in 2008, but shut down the same service just 9 months later.
