Paramount, Studio 71 Teaming on Matthew Espinosa’s ‘Be Somebody’

Paramount will release Matthew Espinosa’s comedy “Be Somebody” as part of a multi-picture deal with Studio 71, the media studio and multi-channel network of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, for films from top digital influencers.

“Be Somebody” is the first title covered under the deal. Espinosa has more than 20 million followers on social media with more than 1 billion loops/views on Vine.

“Be Somebody” is directed by Joshua Caldwell (“Layover”) from a script by Lamar Damon (“Bunheads,” “Slap Her, She’s French!”). Producers are Gary Binkow and Amee Dolleman. Executive producers are Espinosa, Andrew Reyes, Carrie Morrow, Joshua Caldwell and Jeff Levin.

The film tells the fictional story of a teen pop-star who’s desperate to find a more normal life. When he abandons his sold-out tour and runs away to find refuge in a small town, he runs smack into a rebellious street artist who wants nothing to do with him.

Espinosa will be making his acting debut as Jordan Jaye. The film also stars Sarah Jeffery (“Wayward Pines”), Tava Smiley (“General Hospital”), Caitlin Keats, LaMonica Garrett and Allison Paige.

“Matthew Espinosa represents the next generation of talent who have honed their craft and built massive audiences on non-traditional platforms,” said Gary Binkow, Studio71’s chief content officer. “Studio 71 is excited to work with a major studio like Paramount who recognize this talent and can help leverage the exposure to a much wider audience.”

Paramount made the deal through its Worldwide Television Licensing & Distribution and Acquisitions division.

Espinosa said on his Twitter account that the film will be released on June 10.
