Leslie Jones Hack Being Investigated by Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security is currently investigating a cyber hack that exposed Leslie Jones’ personal information and leaked nude photos on her official website.

“ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in New York does currently have an open investigation,” a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security told Variety. “As a matter of agency policy, we are unable to disclose any information related to an active investigation.”

A hacker accessed the “Ghostbusters” star’s iCloud account and posted photos of her passport and drivers license, as well as images of her naked, on Wednesday. A racist video was also uploaded to the site. The personal website was taken down shortly after 9 a.m. PT.

An FBI spokeswoman said the agency is not involved with the investigation at the moment.

“Ghostbusters” director Paul Feig and a slew of other stars and Hollywood figures, including Katy Perry, Lena Dunham, and Patricia Arquette, came to the “SNL” actress’ defense on Wednesday.

The comedian was bullied earlier this summer on social media, prompting her to temporarily leave Twitter. Jones called the harassment “gross and mean and unnecessary.” She returned after Jack Dorsey, the CEO and co-founder of Twitter, banned Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos, though to be the ringleader of the trolls, from the social network. One theory is that the person behind Jones’ hack was a Yiannopoulos fan acting in retaliation.

Jones was recently invited by NBC to Rio to serve as a special correspondent after enthusiastically tweeting about the Olympics.
