Paul McCartney, ‘Sing’ Cast Join Jimmy Fallon for ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ (Watch)

Having trouble getting in the holiday spirit this year? Jimmy Fallon, the Roots, Paul McCartney and the cast of “Sing” teamed up Tuesday night for an a cappella version of McCartney’s song “Wonderful Christmastime” complete with “bum-bums,” “da-da-das” and plenty of holiday cheer.

The video, shot in a “Brady Bunch”-style colorful split over a snowy backdrop, opens with Fallon and the Roots and gradually adds more voices and characters.

“Sing,” which opens in theaters this weekend, tells the story of Buster Moon, a anthropomorphic koala who hopes to restore his theater by putting together an epic singing competition. The animated film’s cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson and Tori Kelly who all appear in the “Tonight Show” video. The film was directed and written by Garth Jennings, co-directed by Christophe Lourdelet and also stars John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Nick Kroll.

The song “Wonderful Christmastime” was originally recorded by McCartney in 1979 for his solo project “McCartney II.” It was later added as a bonus track on Wings’ 1993 reissue of the album “Back to the Egg,” and has since been become a modern Christmas standard.

    Off Broadway Review: 'Soft Power'

The “culture-clash musical” is a familiar template, in which a white American protagonist — waving the flag of individuality, optimism and freedom — trumps and tramps over the complexities of that which is foreign, challenging or “other.” David Henry Hwang and Jeanine Tesori’s “Soft Power,” the new “play with a musical” at Off Broadway’s Public [...]

If nothing else was established by Brandi Carlile’s live recreation of Joni Mitchell’s 1971 “Blue” album — and plenty else was — it was that the 38-year-old singer has nerves even steelier than her vocal cords are pliable. Mitchell is as impossible to emulate as a ridiculously tricky singer, songwriter and picker as they come, which [...]
