Baobab Studios is at it again: The Redwood City-based virtual reality (VR) studio released a preview to the second episode of its breakout animated Sci-fi experience “Invasion!” Thursday.

Baobab premiered the preview to “Asteroids!,” as the new animated short is being called, at Facebook’s Oculus Connect developer conference in San Jose Thursday, while simultaneously releasing it on Samsung’s Gear VR headset.

The 3-minute preview takes viewers onto a spaceship, riding along with Mac and Chez, the two aliens that were first introduced with “Invasion!” Baobab debuted “Invasion!” at Tribeca earlier this year, and the animated short has since become one of the most-watched  experiences on the Oculus Rift and Gear VR headsets.

But “Invasion!” hasn’t just enamored VR fans with its cute animation style. Last week, Baobab and Roth Kirschenbaum Films announced that they were teaming up to make a movie based on “Invasion!” and its characters.

At the time, Baobab’s head of content Kane Lee told Variety that the studio was still looking to continue the story for VR audiences. Our focus is really virtual reality first,” he said. “We are going to continue to build that universe in the VR space.”

Consumers can catch the “Asteroids!” preview within Babobab’s “Invasion!” Gear VR app. A full release of the entire experience is planned for 2017.
