AMC and games developer Next Games said they will tightly integrate “The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land” game with the cabler’s TV series “The Walking Dead” with season 7 of the popular zombie-apocalypse thriller.

For the first time, fans of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” will be able to play the game to unlock exclusive weekly content featuring new playable characters on Mondays, the night after they appear on the show. The game also will feature bonus themes, special cuts and behind-the-scenes videos directly in game. Season 7 of “Walking Dead” premiered Sunday night on AMC.

“A game and a TV show have never been integrated in quite this way before, and we owe it to all the incredible support ‘The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land’ received during its first year,” Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen said. “We’re excited to work with AMC to expand the connections between the worlds of the TV series and game, giving fans an experience that continues to stay true to the show they love.”

According to Next Games, “Walking Dead: No Man’s Land” has snagged nearly 15 million players since it was launched in October 2015. The game features official characters from the AMC show like Michonne, Daryl and Rick as well as cinematic graphics, turn-based combat and touchscreen gameplay.

Next Games, based in Helsinki, Finland, has about 70 employees. The AMC show, based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, has been television’s most-watched drama for adults 18-49 four years in a row.

The free-to-play “Walking Dead: No Man’s Land” game is available for iOS and Android; more info is available at TheWalkingDeadNoMansLand.com. The game offers in-app purchases for users to buy gold, weapons and other gear. On iTunes, the app is rated for users 17 and older, with Apple citing “frequent/intense” violence and horror and fear themes, among other adult content.
