Discovery Communications has hired Suzanne Kolb as executive VP and G.M. of Discovery Digital Networks, overseeing the company’s programming and content development efforts for Internet-native platforms.
Most recently, Kolb was president of NBCUniversal’s E! Entertainment, originally joining the cable network in 2005. While at E!, she launched such franchises as “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” “Chelsea Lately,” “Botched” and “Total Divas” and greenlit the network’s first original scripted series, “The Royals.” She left E! in September 2014.
Kolb reports to Karen Leever, former sales exec at DirecTV, who joined Discovery as EVP and G.M. of digital media last fall.
“We are very fortunate to have Suzanne leading Discovery Digital Networks – networks that engage millennials and offer meaningful opportunities for advertisers and partners wanting to reach them,” Leever said in announcing the hire. “She is an accomplished entertainment executive and content champion, and I look forward to seeing DDN thrive under her leadership.”
Kolb will split her time between Discovery’s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices.
Earlier in her career, Kolb was EVP of marketing at The WB Television Network, where she developed campaigns and ad partnerships for series including “Dawson’s Creek,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Smallville,” “Gilmore Girls” and “Pokémon.” Kolb started her career in New York at ad agency Grey Entertainment as an account and creative executive.
“I love building culturally relevant, young adult content brands and businesses, and I am thrilled to join such a talented team to do just that at Discovery Digital Networks,” Kolb said in a statement.
Discovery Digital Networks’ lineup of 70-plus series and brands generate more than 200 million monthly video views, according to the company. In addition to overseeing that programming slate, Kolb will oversee Discovery’s virtual-reality unit and social-media partnerships.
