Peter Csathy has departed as CEO of business consulting firm Manatt Digital Media after three years to set up his own shingle: Creatv Media, which will invest in and advise tech and media companies.

In forming Creatv (pronounced “creative”), Csathy has lined up a network of partners and affiliates to fund new ventures and provide a range of services including business and strategy development, marketing, production and distribution. Those include Thom Beers, formerly CEO of FremantleMedia North America; producer Larry Kasanoff, who recently launched Threshold Global Studios with Bruno Wu; and Steve Lehman, founder and CEO of Premiere Networks (now part of iHeartRadio) and chairman of multiplatform media company Business Rockstars.

“I don’t consider Creatv Media a consulting shop,” Csathy said. “It’s a broader vision – it’s different DNA. We bring together connections and networking… with a stable of talent that’s proven and best-of-breed.”

Manatt Digital Media, a division of law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, will continue to be headed by partner T. Hale Boggs. Csathy said Creatv Media will work with Manatt for legal consulting as well as the Manatt Venture Fund. “Legal is not something I cover so on those matters, I absolutely believe Manatt is the right place to be,” he said.

Additional members of Creatv Media’s team include: Ted Cohen, president of TAG Strategic and former head of digital at EMI; Robbie Davis, president and CEO of DG Entertainment; Will Griggs and Nick Panama, co-founders and principals at Cantora and Mainframe Group; Steve Hansen, former CEO of SpinMedia and founder of social-video startup RatherBe; Tom Marzullo, founder and CEO of Out Of Our Minds Creative Services; Andrea Nunn, former L.A. Times VP of business development and strategic alliances; Keyvan Peymani, partner with Touchdown Ventures and former ICM Partners managing director of digital strategy; Steven Rahman, former director of strategy and technology Samsung; Mike Rothenberg, founder and CEO of Rothenberg Ventures; Phil Shalala, former CMO of Hard Rock Hotel and Casino; James Shani, founder and CEO of SAV Studios; Brian Simo, founder and former CEO of No Fear; and Jukin Media CEO Jonathan Skogmo.

Creatv’s investments will be focused on seed-stage rounds in emerging technology and digital media space, but Csathy said clients will range from individual entrepreneurs up to large media companies and brands. Initial clients include Threshold Entertainment Group, DG Entertainment, DNA Project, Jukin Media, Verizon, Samsung, Everfest and music festival Kaaboo; existing investments include izo (formerly DanceOn), Ecolink, Express Ventures, MovieLaLa, Ninja Metrics and Obalon.

Prior to joining Manatt in 2013, Csathy was CEO of Sorenson Media, CEO of SightSpeed (acquired by Logitech), president of Musicmatch (acquired by Yahoo) and senior VP of business and legal affairs at Universal Studios.
