Endemol Shine Taps Maker Studios’ Bonnie Pan to Head U.S. Digital Division

Former Maker Studios, Yahoo exec named Endemol Beyond USA president

Bonnie Pan, formerly a top exec at Maker Studios and Yahoo, has been named president of Endemol Beyond USA, Endemol Shine North America’s digital studio and distribution arm.

Most recently, Pan was executive VP of programming at Disney’s Maker Studios, responsible for original series in the gaming, lifestyle, family and entertainment. Before joining Maker in August 2014, she was head of global programming and audience development for Yahoo Video.

Adrian Sexton, who had served as interim president of Endemol Beyond USA since August, will resume his role as COO. Pan reports to Vivi Zigler, president of digital, brand and audience development for Endemol Shine North America.

Last summer, Will Keenan exited as head of Endemol Beyond USA to join live-streaming startup Streamup.

“You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who has made a bigger mark over the last decade in developing and successfully launching original content in the digital space than Bonnie Pan,” Charlie Corwin and Cris Abrego, co-CEOs of Endemol Shine North America, said in a joint statement. “Her tremendous experience from both an operational and development standpoint is exactly what we were looking for in a new leader for our fast-growing team at Endemol Beyond USA.”

At Maker, Pan worked with talent including James Franco, Will.i.am and Morgan Spurlock to develop content and also spearheaded nonfiction projects with ABC News, History Channel and Lucasfilm. She worked with Maker’s YouTube affiliates to launch new formats and series, including “Scare PewDePie,” which was the first original series on the YouTube Red subscription service.

While at Yahoo, she led original programming efforts, which the Internet company has since abandoned. Among other properties, Pan brought a sixth season of comedy “Community” to Yahoo after NBC cancelled the show and launched series including Paul Feig’s “Other Space,” Mike Tollin’s “Sin City Saints” and “Burning Love” with Ben Stiller’s Red Hour. She first joined Yahoo in 2007 as executive producer and product lead of the Yahoo Broadway theater site.

Endemol Beyond USA is part of Endemol Shine Group’s global network that includes local hubs in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, as well as in Asia, Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe. Last year, Endemol Beyond USA teamed with YouTube star Michelle Phan to launch the Icon lifestyle network and Smasher, an eSports and gaming network anchored by flagship series “Legends of Gaming.”
