Writer-producers Karyn Usher and Lisa Zwerling have signed a multi-year overall television deal with Lionsgate under the duo’s newly-formed Carpool Entertainment banner, Variety has learned.

The two will develop and produce original scripted programming through the new shingle, with a mission to develop cable content and provide a platform for new voices.

“Lisa and Karyn are remarkably talented writers and producers who bring a wealth of series television experience to Lionsgate,” said Chris Selak, EVP, Television, Lionsgate Television Group. “We are continually impressed with their artistic range and are thrilled about exploring new opportunities and creating new worlds together as we continue to broaden our Lionsgate TV brand.”

“We’ve gained a lot of valuable experience over the years, and are excited about the ever-evolving nature of television right now,” said Usher and Zwerling in a statement. “We wanted to find a new way to expand our capabilities, both in creating shows and helping other writers execute their visions. Lionsgate takes a unique approach in making great shows and finding the perfect home for them. We’re super lucky to be here.”

Zwerling was previously under an overall deal with ABC Studios, where she executive produced “Betrayal” and co-exec produced “FlashForward.” She also created and executive produced NBC’s “Midnight Sun,” starring Julia Stiles, and spent five seasons as a producer-writer-editor on NBC’s “ER.” Usher, who recently concluded an overall deal at 20th Century Fox Television, previously wrote for “Prison Break,” also serving as co-exec producer. She went on to write and co-executive produce on Fox’s “Bones” and “Backstrom.” The duo previously worked together on John Wells’ shortlived CBS medical drama “Presidio Med.”

Zwerling and Usher are repped by WME.
