“Trump says global warming is a hoax. I say Trump is a fraud,” Brown told the attendees at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night. “Trump says there’s no drought in California, I say Trump lies. So it’s not surprising that Trump chose as his running mate a man who denies that there’s such a thing as evolution.”
Brown was Bill Clinton’s chief Democratic rival in the 1992 presidential race, and spoke at the convention that year without endorsing him.
But Brown endorsed Hillary Clinton in advance of this year’s California primary. Brown said that she “couldn’t be more different” from Trump. “While Trump talks and talks and talks, Hillary gets stuff done.” He said that she paved the way for the Paris Climate Agreement, and launched a coalition of countries to reduce pollutants.
Brown followed a short movie on climate change that was co-produced by “Avatar” director James Cameron. Among those who appeared in the movie was Brown’s gubernatorial predecessor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has also made addressing climate change part of his legacy.
